Hyattsville Logo...

Hyattsville is designing a new city logo. Check out the three choices. I personally like the "Seal" logo, more favorably the one with the blue. The other two more so stress a sort of small town feel...which Hyattsville is not, and definately isn't moving towards. Maybe it's just my bias because I'm so much for urbanization, but I don't think the houses and trees will really help to attract people from outside the city. I really just prefer a more solid, professional design.

I am completely for the Hyattsville movement towards urbanization, and think that the "tree logo" and "arts logo" are reverting to that good ol' small town feel...i detest small towns. and frankly, the tree logo "a great place to live" just sounds cheesy and corny. if it really was such a great place, why are you trying so hard to convince me? today's culture leans toward mordernization and globalization, and in this new age of "faster, better, stronger", one needs to consider employing a more streamlined and elegant design to attract people's attention. i am not bashing the design, i am simply trying to make the designers more aware of what the youth of America is looking for.

Check out the logo as it was modified and adopted. It adds some urban balance to the earlier versions, and the new slogan, "A World Within Walking Distance" also subtly communicates the developing urban flavor. At the same time, the logo also emphasizes green spaces and Hyattsville's link with past and current transportation corridors.

It's important to remember that while young adults seem to prefer urban lifestyles, they also are attracted to localities with ample green space and recreational opportunities. The new logo, I think, strikes just the right balance, while conveying a slightly arty flavor that also is well received by today's urban marketplace.
